An Invitation to Choirs
April 8-10, 2011

We are pleased to invite your participation in a new regional opportunity for our area’s choirs: the Lake Erie Regional Choral Competition!

Hosted by The Young People’s Chorus of Erie and Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, the Lake Erie Regional Choral Competition (LERCC) will make its debut April 8-10, 2011 on the campus of Penn State Erie. The purpose of this weekend-long choral competition is to provide our area’s dedicated and accomplished choirs with a positive, educational, and enjoyable outlet for healthy competition, while also enabling them to experience the work of other singers who are committed to excellence in the choral art. 

Many performing groups such as speech and drama teams, marching bands, and dance troupes find competition a worthwhile activity for the motivation it brings, and the spirit of camaraderie it provides. Our goal is to afford choral groups in the Lake Erie region the same opportunities for musical growth, offering a positive, education-based model for competition in a relaxed and friendly environment. Recognizing that participation itself is indeed the highest honor, our choral competition will enlist the services of qualified, experienced choral educators who will offer constructive feedback to each choir. In the manner of an adjudicated festival, LERCC will ensure a positive, educational experience for each participating ensemble.

The LERCC will host preliminary and final rounds of competition for choral ensembles in the following categories:

• College/University Choirs
 • Church Choirs
• Adult Community Choirs
• Youth Treble Choirs (ages 7-12)
• Youth Treble Choirs (ages 12-18)
• Youth Mixed Choirs
• Women’s Choirs
• Men’s Choirs
